Keeping your dog’s nails trimmed is important to prevent pain, infections, and mobility issues. Most dogs need their nails trimmed every 3-4 weeks, depending on activity levels. Use proper tools like clippers or grinders, and trim small amounts to avoid cutting the quick, the sensitive area with blood vessels. Signs of overgrowth include nails clicking on hard floors or curling into the paw pads. Don’t forget to check dewclaws, which can grow too long. For anxious dogs, introduce tools gradually, reward them with treats, or try calming aids. If trimming feels challenging, consult a groomer or vet for assistance.
